How it started...

Sunset Point Winery opened on July 3, 2015. The winery is owned by Kelly and Don Guay. The name of the winery is a combination of two great locations! Kelly and Don were married in September of 2013 on Sunset Lake in Amherst. They both attended the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point with Paper Sciences degrees. So the name Sunset Point Winery was born! The sun logo also has special meaning: the Guays are a blended family with five kids and because of this there are seven rays in the setting sun.​

FAQs

When are you open?
Please see our home page for current hours. We may have alternate hours on holidays or for special events. Check our Events page when planning your visit.
Can I taste the wines?
Yes! We make our wines here on site. We sell by the bottle, glass, single-serve pouches, and have tasting flights. Tasting flights are $8+tax and you get to select any six wines from our in-stock list. We serve tasting flights every business day, except during busy events and live music.
Do you have food?
We have pre-packaged food available such as blocks of cheese (cutting boards & knives available for use at your table), sausage sticks, crackers, chips, popcorn, trail mix, chocolate and other candy. We also carry some craft beers in our cooler. Availability varies. ​Carry-in food is welcome, but carry-in beverages are not.
What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept cash and all credit/debit cards, including Apple Pay and other eWallet taps. We do not accept personal checks.
Do you have non-alcoholic options?
Yes - we carry Fre Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay, Mock & Co Wisconsin Old Fashioned and Wisco Mule, Point Sodas in various flavors, and LaCroix sparking seltzer in various flavors. In the winter we serve a hot spiced apple juice that is alcohol free.
Do you give tours?
We are no longer booking tours of the facility. If you have a gift certificate, it is still valid for a wine tasting or other beverage option and souvenir glass. Bring it in on any day during normal business hours.
Can you accomodate groups?
We can seat about 50 people, but if you have a large group we recommend calling ahead during normal business hours to inquire about current staffing, space availability & wait times.
Are children / people under 21+ allowed?
Families with children are welcome; please respect the space & other customers by keeping kids at your side or seated at a table during your visit. Some events are only open to those over 18 or 21.
Do you have outdoor seating?
As of July 2025, we have a small outdoor patio space in the front of the building for use as weather permits. Please come inside to order, as we can not see the patio from the tasting room.
Are pets allowed?
We're licenced as a manufacturing facility and our permit does not allow pets inside the building. However, pets are welcome in our outdoor patio space.
Are your wines Organic? Vegan? Gluten-Free?
Our wines are not organic certified. We source our ingredients from a variety of locations; some are organically grown, others are not. We do not use animal by-products in the production of our wines. Our whiskey-barrel Tramonto may have trace amounts of gluten due to wheat being used in spirits fermentation. All our other wines are gluten-free.
What are these crystals at the bottom of my wine bottle?
These crystals are tartrates, or potassium bitartrate, which is widely known as cream of tartar. Tartrates are naturally occurring in all wine grapes. They are more commonly spotted in chilled white wines. When they settle in the bottle to form crystals, we call them "wine diamonds". They are completely harmless.
Do you sell wine or beer making supplies?
We do not carry supplies meant for individual/home use, but you may find what you need at the Lil Ole Winemaker Shoppe at 602 Jefferson St, Wausau, WI 54403, 715-845-6170
The Tasting Room
The tasting room is located on the second floor of the building right above our production area. We have elevator access. This room has a warm and cozy feel with hardwood floors and lofted ceiling with skylights. It is a great place to hang out with family or friends. We have six wonderful hammock swings where you can sit back and relax.
